September 17, 2013 – Zettaset working toward Big Data encryption for Hadoop

By Ellen Messmer, Network World
Network World - Zettaset, which makes management and security software for Hadoop, says it plans to add encryption capabilities by year end. Eric Murray, security architect at Zettaset, says the firm’s Orchestrator suite for managing Hadoop clusters is being enhanced to include a way to establish key-management servers based on symmetric keys to encrypt Hadoop data partitions. This option is not targeting field-level encryption, he notes, but will allow the security manager to set up an automated method for encrypting data stored in the Hadoop database. >> more NetworkWorld, CIO, ITWorld

July 24, 2013 – The Odd Couple: Hadoop and Data Security

By Tony Baer
Until now, security wasn’t a term that would normally be associated with Hadoop. April 25, 2013 – Big Data can be a Big Headache for Data Defenders

By John P. Mello Jr.
Big data is all the buzz in board rooms these days, but in security circles it's a mixed blessing. The technology allows tons of threat data to be analyzed and used to thwart intruders. In the enterprise, it can be used to analyze volumes of network traffic to reveal insider trouble and advanced persistent threats. Problem is, the network architecture that supports big data wasn't created with security in mind, which can create problems for system defenders.
